Response to Rosenheck and Ciccheti's "A Mental Health Program Report Card: A Multidimensional Approach to Performance Monitoring in Public Sector Programs." (response to article by Robert Rosenheck and Domenic Cicchetti in this issue, p. 85)
Article Abstract:
A study on the mental health program monitoring system adopted by the Dept of Veteran Affairs is evaluated. It is argued that the system provides accurate assessments of mental health programs and is suitable for other applications. However, the system fails to consider other variables that are essential to measuring program performance such as patient outcomes, consumer characteristics and service processes.

Response to "Is there a role for physician assistants in community mental health?" (article by D.A. Pollack and S.M. Ford in this issue, p. 209)
Article Abstract:
On-the-job psychiatric education of physician assistants (PAs) promotes higher efficiency and cost-effective service to patients. PAs should also be given more in-depth psychiatric training. Moreover, knowledge of psychiatric pathology, understanding of psychiatric therapy and awareness of the complexities of emotional health will improve the PAs' sense of job satisfaction and competence.
