Article Abstract:

A debate is raised concerning the degree to which near-term intentions usurp resources away from other ongoing activities. Considering the potential mechanisms that cause interference, the explanation favored is that people establish resource allocation policies based on their predictions of being able to successfully complete both the ongoing and prospective memory tasks.

Constructing representations of arguments

Article Abstract:

The nature of the discourse structures used by readers to guide their understanding of written arguments is investigated with particular reference to order of presentation with arguments being placed in a claim-first or in a reason-first order. Four findings support the suggestion that readers to process arguments used a claim-centered argument schema.
