The utility of extended outpatient civil commitment
Article Abstract:
The Victorian Psychiatric Case Register was used to study the impact of extended mental health care outpatient commitment orders on mental health services utilization. Findings show that the orders provided a level of treatment unanticipated outside this delivery system, and offered an alternative to hospitalization.

Can epidemiological studies assist in the evaluation of community treatment orders? The experience of Western Australia and Nova Scotia
Article Abstract:
Research is presented on 274 subjects in Nova Scotia and Western Australia who were placed on community treatment orders for mandated mental health care. Placement was not linked with lower mean bed-days or admissions, but a threshold effect was found for a lower risk of inpatient stays longer than 100 days.

A cluster analysis of people on Community Treatment Orders in Victoria, Australia
Article Abstract:
Three stable clusters were found for a sample of 164 individuals on mental health service Community Treatment Orders. Implications for policy and practice, including improved targeting and treatment planning, are discussed.
