Burkina Faso: Strides after harassment
Article Abstract:
Norbert Zongo was the most outspoken critic of the government by the standards of Burkina Faso journalists, as he used 'The Independent', the weekly newspaper as a platform of decry corruption and push for human rights in Africa. The form of harassment was the lack of security for the journalist and as professionalism was also an issue holding back independent journalist that was gradually improved as changing reporting styles, moving from covering meeting and official events to embarking on more investigative work.

Trouble in paradise: Hard times for journalists
Article Abstract:
Wesley Gibbings, president of the Association of Caribbean Media Workers (ACM), stated in December 2003 that there exists a basis for anxiety in some territories where official policy tended to offer prescriptions that have potential to undermine the right to publish opinions and information not always in conformity with official or popular views. The ACM statement referred to the government of Jamaica and is considered new anti-terrorism laws that would block the publication of official documents.
