Drag-and-drop CD recording
Article Abstract:
Sony's CD-R File System (CD-RFS) drag-and-drop technology is meant to make CD recording as easy as copying to a floppy disk. It is also meant to transform CD-ROM into a removable storage technology, to be used for data backups, archiving or large file transfers. With CD-RFS, users simply drag files and folders to a CD-ROM icon. The software supports incremental writing, which refers to copying one file at a time, and multisession recording, which means copying to a disc, 'freezing' or finalizing the disc, and then, copying more files to the disc. CD-RFS will be included in Sony's 2x-write, 4x-read CD-R drives, the Spressa 940 and the Spressa 9411. The former is expected to cost less than $1,000 and the latter less than $1,200. CD-RFS is available as an upgrade for other CD-R models. Windows and Macintosh versions are available now; Unix and OS/2 versions are expected by Aug 1996.

Lightning-fast color copiers
Article Abstract:
Color copiers are getting faster every year with the fastest in 1995 being clocked at 15 pages per minute (ppm). In 1996, industry observers believe that some copiers will be able to reach the 30 ppm or even 40 ppm level. When buying a color copier, it is important to evaluate the usage of the copier and weigh whether the fast speed is really necessary; they usually are not for short runs. A copier's duty cycle is how many copies per month it is expected to run and is an indication of the copier's ruggedness. Other factors to consider include the number of sheets per cassette and whether or not a digital interface is available.
