Controlling creativity
Article Abstract:
Digital cameras are becoming more like traditional, film-based cameras in both appearance and features. Where most of the earlier digital cameras were fully automatic, point-and-shoot devices, the latest products offer more manual control over the image. The major problems of automatic cameras are exposure difficulties that occur when the light meter reads the wrong location and under- or over-exposes the primary image. These problems can be overcome with features that control the amount of light exposure and the shutter speed. New digital cameras will soon be available with megapixel resolution, manual controls and many features, but cameras with truly interchangeable lenses for less than $1,000 are not foreseen in the near future.-

The empire strikes back
Article Abstract:
The Apple Power Macintosh G4 offers great value, performance, and a variety of useful features. The processor benefits from Motorola's AltiVec Velocity Engine, which contains instructions that accelerate multimedia functions and cause the G4 chip to perform almost three times faster than a Pentium III. The base price of $1599 is the same amount Apple offered the G3 for in Spring of 1999, but with faster hard drives, FireWire capability, and increased memory capacity, Apple has managed to significantly increase the value of the G4 while maintaining the entry price point. High end models offer 450Mhz processors, two USB ports running at 12Mbps each, accelerated graphics, and built in Zip drives.

Is digital imaging worth the investment?
Article Abstract:
Professional photographers are increasingly inclined to 'go digital.' There are three good reasons for converting to digital imaging. First, it is convenient, bringing more of the process in-house. Second, it offers more control over the entire process, from creation to output. And third, digital services can translate into an advantage over competitors. The photography process divides into three parts: concept, setup and post-production. The advantages of using digital methods typically are most apparent in the final phase, post-production.
