The big bundle: tips on buying an all-in-one PC publishing system
Article Abstract:
'Turnkey' desktop-publishing systems combine everything needed to do publishing into a single package. Typically, the following components are included: PC, monitor, graphics display adapter, laser printer, and a mouse. Such a system might also include page-makeup software; a scanner; and a large, high-resolution screen. Until recently, dedicated systems tended to be expensive - most cost $20,000 or more; they were often built around sophisticated workstations, and they included advanced program and networking features. PC turnkey systems, however, are now available in the $8,000 to $12,000 range; these are usually standalone systems that lack networking or multitasking features. Desktop systems using IBM PC's or compatibles are listed and described; specifications and prices are included.

Article Abstract:
Memorandum 1.0, from Target Software, is described as the electronic equivalent of 3M's Post-It pads - the little gummed papers that find so many uses in an office. Memorandum allows you to remind yourself of this or that before a document has made it to hard copy. Memorandum can attach notes to documents from various applications: word processing, spreadsheet, data base, graphics, or page layout. The program can be used to leave reminders for yourself, or to gather comments or suggestions from office mates. The program requires 512Kbytes. It is considered 'well worth the $99.95 price tag'.
