The dukes of Devonshire
Article Abstract:
Retail Developers Charlie Chester and Kane Yeardley have developed a disused factory site in Sheffield, England, into the Forum, a specialist shopping area containing 24 shops and a bar. The two men were surveying students who started work together producing posters for their company Snappy Pop Pics. In 1991 they purchased the lease on a old glazing factory in Sheffield. Converting the building into a smaller version of the Forum cost around 80,000 pounds sterling. The success of the venture has allowed them not only to expand the Forum but to go on to open the Halcyon Bar in 1996.

Portrait of defiance
Article Abstract:
The UK government's approach to leisure development is misguided, according to leisure development company THI Pres Carl Lewis. He is particularly concerned that the government has called in two of his company's schemes that he had assumed met planning guidelines. He does not regard himself as a developer, and now wants to become a manager and investor-owner. The company's first move towards investing in schemes is taking an 8% stake in the THI Leisure Partnership, which purchased three of THI's developments in Oct 1998.
