Article Abstract:
Several new developments are planned for the area around Dartford, Kent, England, which may adversely affect the retail and office markets in the centre of town. The 1.6 m sq ft Bluewater shopping centre will house a variety of major stores, it should open in the year 1999. A 94 acre area in Dartford is the proposed site of the London Science Park. A new 75 million pounds sterling leisure facility is due to be considered by planning offices in Nov 1997. Some 2,500 acres of land owned by Whitcliff Properties is being developed for industrial, distribution and office buildings.

Freedom for the city centre
Article Abstract:
Two schemes being considered by the planning authorities may remedy the lack of adequate retail development in the centre of Birmingham, England. Plans have been submitted for the construction of a new shopping area called the Martineau Galleries and for the 300 million pounds sterling renovation of the Bull Ring shopping centre. The 90 million pounds sterling Fort shopping area on the outskirts of Birmingham, is almost fully let and during its first week a predicted 125,000 customers visited the new site.

Heady brew
Article Abstract:
The town of Romford, Essex, is set for major changes when a 7.3 ha, ex-brewery site in the middle of the town is developed. The scheme, being developed by Romford Developments, a partnership between Stannifer Developments and J. Sainsbury, will include a 16-screen Ster-Kinekor multiplex cinema, a 14,028 sq mt supermarket and 100 homes.
