Breaking up is hard to do
Article Abstract:
Those facing the challenge of dealing with an underperforming partner should explore a range of options before considering dismissal. Retraining may be a possibility, or the partner may wish to be moved away from a fee-earning role. Care should be taken to establish the partner's aims and requirements, as these will determine the solution adopted. In some cases, it may actually be beneficial to the partner to be dismissed and to make a fresh start with another firm. The dismissal of a partner must be handled very sensitively if the whole firm is not to become unsettled.
