Call waiting
Article Abstract:
A study into the viability of Bristol, England, as a site for call centre operations found the low unemployment rate, at 3.2%, and the lack of suitable premises made the town a less popular location. Low unemployment pushes up wage costs due to competition for available workers. Some industry observers point out the traffic congestion in the city and lack of grant aid are also factors why Bristol has not grown as a location for call centre firms. Bristol was the city chosen by British Telecommunications PLC for its first call centre in the 1980s.

A different groove
Article Abstract:
The UK's nightclubs are beginning to face significant competition from venues that are a smart cafe-bar during the day but then offer an attractive atmosphere for after-work drinks and gradually become a disco as the night goes on. Some observers believe that many people now prefer visiting a bar which also offers the club experience to visiting a conventional nightclub. Against this background, nightclub operators will have to review their food and beverage activities, and may no longer be able to justify charging an entrance fee.
