The UK property sector attracted investment of almost 30 billion pounds sterling in 2000, but this is set to fall to around 20 billion pounds sterling in 2001, according to the DTZ Money into Property report. The Total outstanding debt to property firms is currently 81 billion pounds sterling, and this is set to exceed 90 billion pounds sterling for the whole of 2001.

Miller's tale

The privately owned Miller Group had operating profits of 22 million pounds sterling in 1999. The company purchased the Cussins Property group for 23 million pounds sterling and are still looking for other acquisitions. They are not planning to float on the stock market.

The UK bank Abbey National has transferred the ownership of its freehold and leasehold property to an outsourcing company, Mapeley, who paid 457 pounds sterling. The bank will take leases on the property.
