Centres take the stage
Article Abstract:
The Braehead retail centre on the outskirts of Glasgow, Scotland, has not affected the retail trade in the city centre but local agents suggest it may have a detrimental affect on trade in nearby towns. A leisure development is due to be built on the site and a 250,000 sq ft retail warehouse is planned to open at Easter 2000. Two new shopping centres have been opened in the city supplying 1.2 million sq ft of extra retail space. Despite concerns the new centres would take custom from other sites in the city all areas seem to be thriving. Some redevelopment is going ahead in Buchanan Street, Glasgow.

Bath's toe in the water
Article Abstract:
Local property agents in Bath, England, fear any attempts by the authorities to reduced parking in the city will have a detrimental affect on demand for retail outlets. Some 150 retail companies are looking for space in the city centre. It is anticipated the planned redevelopment of the Southgate Centre may help to relieve some of the demand. Although planning approval for the scheme has been very difficult to obtain. Some 15 million pounds sterling is being spent on a modern spa for the city. Bath is designated as a World Heritage city.
