Economic trends in Japan and Southeast Asian countries are the ones to blame for the slowdown of the American economy and not the Federal Reserve Board. However, problems of the Japanese economy have resulted in the shift of investing to treasury securities and to lower real estate prices in Japan.

The rise in interest rates may not have such a bad impact on property sales as some people predict. Although a drop in volume sales for the year 2000 is expected prices are likely to remain buoyant as inventory levels remain low.
