The Barclaycard company will finalize its move into its new headquarters building located at the Northampton Business Park, Northampton, England, by autumn 1997. Barclaycard plans to lease the 43 million pounds sterling office building for 20 years from its parent company Barclays bank. The headquarters will include finance and advertising departments and customer care operations. Th building is 300,000 sq ft and Barclaycard will pay 14.50 pounds sterling per sq ft. The Barclaycard management were very keen find new premises in Northampton in order to retain their 2,600 employees.

Wide-reaching changes are taking place at Xerox's international headquarters building in Marlow, England. The company decided in 1995 that changes were required, but did not wish to leave Marlow, which has good access to Heathrow airport. It has opted instead to remove the traditional corridor and office structure in phases, replacing it with open-plan spaces which encourage improved staff communications. The refurbishment, which will be completed in 1998, will cost a total of around 2 million pounds sterling.

There has been a strong revival in the office property market in Dublin, Ireland, recently, with a record 82,162 sq mt of space being taken up in the first half of 1996. There is now only 60,106 sq mt of space available, the lowest vacancy rate since 1989. Rents are beginning to rise, and some observers that factors such as construction costs could push rents up even higher during the rest of 1996.
