Light and dark
Article Abstract:
The market for leisure operators in Leeds, England, is buoyant but increasing rents have led to some companies deciding not to move into the city. Rents reached 30 pounds sterling per sq ft in 1998. There is little prospect of out-of-town leisure development because of planning laws. Some local agents fear the opening of 'The Light' leisure and retail centre, in Leeds, will take business away from the other parts of the city. The new 349,839 sq ft development is due to open in the city centre during 2001. It is anticipated some 1.4 million people will visit the site each year.
