Lords give rough ride to privity
Article Abstract:
The House of Lords has forced a number of alterations to a Bill aimed at abolishing privity of contract. A key amendment intended to permit landlords and tenants to decide terms under which a lease assignment is concluded has had to be withdrawn. Landlords' and tenants' representative bodies have expressed regret, but accepted that the amendement had to be withdrawn if the Bill was to be heard in the current parliamentary session.

Dealing an even hand
Article Abstract:
British property prices are expected to rise gradually in 1996, in response to the reduced interest rate of the Nov. 1995 budget. Quality office property is now at a premium because of shorter leasing arrangements and developments in technology. High quality developments are expected to demand increased rents, even though many offices currently stand empty following the economic recession.

Urban land use initiatives getting there, says RICS
