Private builders back on the starting blocks
Article Abstract:
There were 14,200 new homes being started by private housebuilders in December 1994, compared to 11,200 in December 1993, and total housing starts were 160,000 for the year. Housing associations accounted for 39,800 of the starts, although local authority, new town and government department starts were at just 1,700. A survey by the House-Builders Federation found that about half of developers planned more starts in 1995 with half expecting to sell more homes.

Passing back the cost of your Superfund cleanup

Private parties can sue, under the Comprehensive Environmental Response Compensation and Liability Act, commonly referred to as Superfund, to recover hazardous-substances removal or remediation costs from liable parties. NCP requirements include a feasibility study, an alternatives assessment and the choice of a cost-effective response.
