Fewer fears from New Labour
Article Abstract:
The UK property industry has in the past had some fears over the possibility of a Labour government, but many in the industry now believe that 'New Labour's planning policies differ little from current government policy. Shadow minister for planning and regeneration, Keith Vaz, says that Labour no longer aims to reintroduce development land taxes, and is keep to encourage partnerships between the private and public sectors. He says that Labour would invest as much as the Tories in urban regeneration, but would make the money work more efficiently via new bodies called Civic Forums.

Preparing for the worst
Article Abstract:
Many companies are now starting to accept the importance of disaster planning, and are establishing plans for how to deal with a major problem, such as a fire or flood. In all cases, the main aim will be damage limitation, although the scope of the plan will vary according to the company's type and size. With companies which employ more than around 50 people, it is probably necessary to employ an outside disaster consultant.
