Nesting instinct threatens nest egg
Article Abstract:
The development of 291.4 ha Dibden Bay, close to Southampton Port, could be delayed because it has become a nesting site for waders. The land has been earmarked for development by Associated British Ports for 20 years, but bird-lovers are concerned that wildlife could be impacted by the proposed expansion of Southampton Port. Associated British Ports will apply for outline planning consent to the Secretary of State by the end of 1996. However, the European Union laws protecting wild birds may mean the end to development plans.

A duty to escape
Article Abstract:
The UK property sector is investigating ways of avoiding stamp duty. The government has increased stamp duty from 1% to 3% in nine months and analysts anticipate that further rises could take it to 6%. Many companies are considering the use of off-shore vehicles, particularly Special Purpose Vehicles, which offer a range of options for their management. Other methods of avoiding stamp duty include developers transferring property to institutions at an earlier stage to avoid sales of completed properties.
