A number of property professionals met for a debate on housing issues. BG Property National Sales Manager John Ireland pointed out local authorities are making too many extra demands on developers in return for planning permission. Berkely Group Managing Director Tony Pidgley suggested the planning system should be reviewed as it can take up to three years to obtain permission. Shadow Minister for Local Government and Housing Neil Waterson pointed out the government had failed to award the additional funds necessary to comply with the Urban Task Force Report.

Demand for office space in the Wandsworth, London, England, area is strong. Although local agents point out the town centre needs redeveloping and transportation would be improved with access to the underground train system. Some renovation work has started on the Arndale shopping centre. The riverside at Battersea, England, is becoming a popular area, with buildings having a 30% premium. Some 75% of the riverside has been redeveloped. Berkeley Homes plans to build a mixed-use development on a 8.4 acre site at Battersea Wharf.
