On the buses
Article Abstract:
The local authorities in Oxford, England, have tried to discourage the use of private cars in the city. Some observers have suggested the strategy has caused a problems for retailers yet rents for prime retail units are more than 200 pounds sterling per sq ft. Buses are popular in the city, with several park-and-ride schemes in operation. Some observers suggest better bus services from nearby towns would be useful. The bus operators point out they often find it difficult to keep to their timetables due to congestion and they fear plans for pedestrianisation may cause further problems.
