Turbulent times for Stansted
Article Abstract:
The long-term development of Stansted Airport, Essex, is causing concern to local villages which will bear the brunt of new housing schemes. Government policy decrees that when Stansted's passenger numbers exceed eight million, some 2,500 new homes will have to be built for the extra workers needed. This figure is set to be reached in early 2000. Since 1990, the local community and the parish councils have been battling over the siting of the new housing, which is focused on the villages of Takeley, Felsted, Great Dunmow and Birchanger.
