Spanish practices
Article Abstract:
Leisure developments in Spain need to address the constant issue of national culture verses popular design and American influence. The Spanish are very protective of their culture and need to have positive reinforcement of familiar traditions in new development, especially in more rural areas. City leisure developments tend to embrace a more cosmopolitan design, attracting a young, dynamic audience, while rural areas and small towns favour traditional design and less aggressive developments.

Studio in the frame
Article Abstract:
Plans to develop a former film studio site in Hertfordshire have caused a stir amongst the local community who wish to ensure the historical aspects of the development are not forgotten. Up to 7,000 new jobs are expected to be created by the building of a new business park at the Leavesden Studio site which will become vacant at the end of 2000. Infrastructure improvements and jobs for the local community are to be combined with a possible media themed-park.
