The UK market for facilities management is worth a total of 225 billion pounds sterling, according to research concern Mintel. In-house facilities management work accounts for 116 billion pounds sterling, with 109 billion pounds sterling being contracted out. It is forecast that in-house facilities management will be worth 137 billion pounds sterling in 2000, with contracted out services at 139 billion pounds sterling. Some companies regard the outsourcing of facilities management as an attractive way to cut costs, but there can be difficulties with loss of control.
