Real estate companies have better planning and are focusing on the bottom line to offset possible economic difficulties during 1999. Low interest rates are contributing to the stability of property values and real estate investments should provide the same rate of return as other investments if there are no economic surprises in the US or international markets.

Rental income is the sole source of revenue for many apartment owners, but economic and political realities make it incumbent on owners to develop additional revenue sources. Owners could, for example, start businesses that supply services or goods to tenants. Such businesses can be conducted on a sole proprietorship or joint proprietorship basis.
