The deregulation of the electric power industry in the US is triggering companies to reformulate corporate site and energy strategies. Prior to deregulation, many business sites, especially for energy-intensive undertakings, have been strongly impacted by steady and cost-effective electric power. Deregulation would provide an abundant selection of sites. Several electric companies are breaking into generation and transmission units, which are the electric sector's most profitable segment.
