A European family at war
Article Abstract:
The case of Catherine Laylle, a British woman who saw a German court refuse to return her two children after their abduction by their German father, highlights the problems which can face mixed-nationality families when they split up. She had been granted custody of the children, but the judge ruled that they would face social and cultural problems if they were returned to the UK. She has now been banned from seeing the children for three months, and fears that their father may convince them to reject her.

The society girl gets serious
Article Abstract:
Most upper-class young women used to spend a lot of time socialising, content simply to attend parties and high-class functions. However, many are now moving away from this lifestyle, and are trying to carve out careers for themselves. They want to establish their own importance, rather than simply being known for their family or who they mix with. It is now become very unfashionable to do nothing, and these women no longer want to be seen as superficial.

'Nothing ever happens here.' (murder of Rachael Lean at RAF Coltishall, Norfolk)
Article Abstract:
Residents of the village of Buxton Lammas, Norfolk, the home of Rachael Lean, who was murdered recently at nearby RAF Coltishall, find it hard to accept that a murder took place in such a quiet place. They regard it as an isolated incident, and do not fear for their own children. Life has already begun to return to normal there, and nobody has come forward with information about the possible killer.
