A Siberian in Paris
Article Abstract:
It is important to separate an author's life from his work, according to novelist Andrei Makine, who was born in Siberia but now lives very quietly in Paris, France, away from the main literary circles. However, he also believes that all novels are autobiographical to a certain extent. He feels that a writer invents his own language, and therefore does not think it strange that he writes in French. He finds it impossible to separate his life from his work, and feels that his commitment to literature leaves no room for other commitments.

Prophet of the absurd
Article Abstract:
Russian novelist Victor Pelevin does not believe that he is interesting as a person. He greatly dislikes attracting attention, and for this reason does not undertake promotional work within Russia, where his novels have been extremely successful. He finds it impossible to account for his popularity, emphasizing that he merely writes books that he would enjoy reading himself. He took up writing because he did not want to follow a predictable everyday routine.

Aquarian nightmare
Article Abstract:
There are a number of key social issues which were raised in the 1960s in the US and which have still not been resolved, according to thriller writer Scott Turow, who took part in peace protests in the 1960s. Most importantly, there is still a very strong racial divide in the country. His most recent novel, 'The Laws of Our Fathers,' looks at the Aquarian Age and its impact on the 1990s and is his most personal novel so far.
