A drug for every bug
Article Abstract:
A vaccine is being developed that could act against asthma stimuli though it was orginally geared to hastening TB cures. The idea for the vaccine came from a study of the effectiveness of BCG vaccine against TB in Uganda, where a bacterium appears to stimulate Th1 lymphocyte production, helping the battle against infections. Children are more likely to suffer from asthma in developed economies where homes tend to be freer of germs, and draughts are prevented, so allergens stay within the home. Eastern German children suffer less from asthma and are more likely to have been in groups, exposed to infections, when they are very young.

UK: FEARS OVER MENINGITIS C VACCINATIONS
Article Abstract:
Concerns have been raised in the UK regarding the safety of meningitis C vaccinations for people under 18 years of age. The fears have been highlighted following the death of a 14 year old boy five days after receiving the vaccination and reports of an increase in calls about the safety of the vaccination from concerned parents. The concerns come amid a government scheme to immunise those under the age of 18 against the disease, which resulted in 75% fewer cases being registered in the UK in 1999 than the average of 3,000.
