A folk festival to lighten our darkness
Article Abstract:
The number of fireworks sold in the UK has increased by 22% over the last five years, reaching 137 million. There is now a period in early winter of around a week during which many people let off fireworks or attend organised firework displays. This period has no real connections with either Guy Fawkes' night or Hallowe'en. Some observers feel that fireworks are a strong religious symbol, being used to ward off the darkness. Indeed, fireworks serve as an illustration of many Christian ideas.

All the better to kid you with
Article Abstract:
Computerisation of data has made it liable to unseen tampering. Digital records of databases, newspapers, photographs, video and television recordings have no built-in security, and modern techniques can transform most visual data. Legal tampering with online databases already exists as newspaper data may be modified after production when an inaccuracy has been proved. Many papers in the US do not even keep hard copy archives, and tampering for whatever reason is raising ethical questions.

Intel plays name game in fight for supremacy
Article Abstract:
Intel leads the microprocessor market with the 486 which operates twice as fast as a 386. It is becoming the business standard. Intel's profits were 158 million pounds sterling on sales of 1.4 billion in the last 1/4 of 1992. Competitors AMD and Cyrix, who have a licensing agreement, with Intel are a step behind. AMD sells more 386s than Intel and is attempting to produce its own 486 chip through reverse engineering. Advertising with the slogan 'Intel Inside' increases the use of the 486.
