Vietnam: two men, two wars
Article Abstract:
Former Vietnamese army commander Vo Thanh Kiet is reluctant to speak about his experiences of the Vietnam war, but does not have any regrets about what happened, as he feels that he was fighting a just war. He was involved in the liberation of Saigon, and felt the relief of ordinary people. In contrast, former US soldier Ian Stirton still remembers his time in Vietnam vividly. He felt that his own involvement was futile, and believes that the US wasted many years in military intervention in Vietnam. He believes that those who singled themselves out as conscientious objectors were the real heroes.

Judge Manuel Garcia Castellon has stated that he will abandon his investigation into the killing and disappearance of as many as 4,000 people in Chile during the rule of former dictator General Augusto Pinochet in 1973 to 1990. He will hand all his evidence to Judge Baltasar Garzon, who is seeking to have Pinochet extradited from the UK to Spain to stand trial for crimes of genocide and torture. Spain's National Court will rule shortly on whether Garzon is permitted to go ahead with his extradition request.
