A hard nut to crack
Article Abstract:
There is no clear evidence to support the advice issued by the UK government's Chief Medical Officer earlier in 1998 that mothers with a tendency to allergy should consider avoiding eating peanuts during pregnancy. Indeed, some experts believe that avoiding peanuts could even boost the prevalence of peanut allergy. They accept that high levels of peanut consumption could be linked with peanut allergy, but point out that it is likely that something more than eating peanuts in pregnancy leads to the allergic reaction.
