A knock on the door began quest for truth
Article Abstract:
In the Gulf War American pilots mistook a British personnel carrier for an Iraqi tank and nine British soldiers died on Feb 26 1991. Advanced technology prevented error in other aspects of the war, so the parents of the deceased soldiers doubt the US Air Force and the Ministry of Defence's given reason of mistake. No conclusive evidence arose at the inquest in Oxford. Mr Peter Atkinson spoke to President Bush and was sent a report of the American account of events which did not explain everything. Pilots had not followed the normal practice of checking the absence of friendly forces before attacking.

Delicate balance amid gloom of recession
Article Abstract:
Bury North and Bury South are marginal seats where Alistair Burt, Conservative, (in the North) had a majority of 2792 in 1983 and David Sumberg, Conservative, had a majority of 3720 in the South. The present Labour candidate for the north, Jim Dobbin, would need a 6.2% swing and Hazel Blears for the south would need a 2.6% swing. Homeowners will be influenced by the highest rising rate of repossession orders (260%) in the country and the above average rate of increase in unemployment, which is 45.1%.

Deaths showed risk of undercover work in Iraq
Article Abstract:
Former managing director of Matrix Churchill Paul Henderson spied on Iraq's weapon procurement and passed information to MI6. Customs and Excise prosecuted them for evading export controls but failed to discover the government involvement. Former trade and defence minister Mr Alan Clark gave evidence that he had advised Matrix Churchill to emphasise peaceful use of the equipment and omit the potential military application for the sake of increasing export.
