After the hype, the scientists' verdict: CJD to kill hundreds
Article Abstract:
Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) caused by eating food infected with BSE will cause hundreds of deaths in the UK every year, according to government scientists. This is much lower than some predictions which were made when the link between BSE and CJD was first established in 1995. However, it sweeps aside claims by the government that BSE does not represent a danger to human health. CJD is believed to have an incubation period averaging 15 years, and the number of cases will continue to rise for some time.

Should ours be the only children in the world to eat British beef?
Article Abstract:
There is currently considerable debate about the possible health impact of eating British beef, as scientists are now starting to admit that there could be a link between BSE in cattle and CJD in humans. Many countries are now banning British beef, and the Consumers Association has advised against eating it. It is now important to establish how much BSE-infected beef must be eaten for the disease to be passed on to humans and whether it is safe to eat calf and beef liver and kidney.

Beef on the bone is banned in new scare
Article Abstract:
The UK government has decided to ban beef on the bone from all supermarkets, butchers, shops and restaurants in response to advice from scientists indicating that there is a small danger of BSE-infected material entering the human food chain through bones. The new regulation will also apply to imported beef. Meat on the bone accounts for only around 5% of the overall beef market, but taking action against it highlights the fact that the BSE crisis has still not been resolved.
