An advocate for the consumer
Article Abstract:
The Labour party's proposals for changes to the legal system, which include improved access to justice, cheaper courts and more representative judges, appear to be very similar to those of the Lord Chancellor, Lord Mackay. However, the government's plans are motivated by the need to cut costs, while Labour's are based on social justice, according to Paul Boateng, the party's spokesman on legal affairs. It is challenging the traditional roles of solicitors and barristers, and is particularly keen to reduce cost and delay in access to legal services.
