An epidemic - or just a big wheeze?
Article Abstract:
Research published in the British Medical Journal indicates that a significant number of British children have moderate to severe asthma but remain undiagnosed and are not receiving treatment. Indeed, asthma among children seems to have reached epidemic proportions. Some observers are sceptical about these findings, especially as there seems to be no explanation for an asthma epidemic. However, it seems clear that asthma is now a real problem for many children. The incidence of childhood asthma is currently around 15%, much higher than it used to be.

Life's no joke in the lawyers' chamber of horrors
Article Abstract:
Many UK solicitors are unhappy with their work, to the extent that around 80% in private practice are seeking new employment. They feel that they have a negative public image and that they are not respected by ordinary people, who dismiss them as earning more than they deserve. Lawyers often appear boring, especially as rules of confidentiality do not allow them to talk about many aspects of their work, and they have never really had a place in people's hearts. They are also concerned about the increasingly insecure nature of their employment.

A well connected hostage is first to be freed
Article Abstract:
It can be difficult to maintain media interest over a long period in Britons held hostage abroad. This has been the case with Keith Mangan and Paul Wells, who were abducted in Kashmir in 1995. Campaigning for the release of hostages becomes much easier if connections with the media or advertising can be exploited. Links with advertising have helped the relatives of Camilla Carr, who was kidnapped with her partner Jon James in Chechyna in 1997.
