An open letter from Polly Toynbee to Fay Weldon...
Article Abstract:
Prominent feminists of the 1960s now seem to have moved on to other issues, feeling that the feminist cause is progressing extremely slowly. They have accepted that they must make way for younger commentators, and acknowledge that there is still considerable progress to be made in challenging power and wealth. Some observers now feel that men have been negatively affected by the growing power and influence of woman and by the fact that most women now work. This is not necessarily the case, as most commonly women have taken jobs that men do not wish to have.

A day but not an era for women
Article Abstract:
International Women's Day has attracted very mixed reactions. It will be marked with many different events, but many of them are associated with 'alternative' interests rather than those of ordinary women. Recent research has shown that younger women feel no links with the women's movement, and that little has changed since feminism first emerged in the 1970s. There is still a large gap between what women want and expect and what they get, and women do not see themselves as a separate political group.

Polly Toynbee: the truth about BBC bias
Article Abstract:
All BBC reporters feel under strong pressure to ensure that they show no political bias, and this can have a negative impact on journalistic standards. Despite this, the BBC is often accused of having left-wing leanings, and this can produce a very difficult working environment. In fact, it is necessary for the BBC to have close links with both the Conservative and Labour parties, and most accusations of bias can be dismissed.
