'An underground collage of comic-strip surrealism.' (excerpt from 'The 'Priest' They Called Him: The Life and Legacy of William S. Burroughs')(part 3)
Article Abstract:
William Burroughs' 'The Naked Lunch' was just as much an event as a novel. It attracted those who wished to rebel against society, especially as it was banned in the UK. It was published at a time when the relationship between Burroughs and Allen Ginsberg became less fraught with sexual tension. Burroughs underwent psycho-analysis, and began to formulate new views about sex. A significant event in his life at this time was his meeting with gay, androgynous painter Brion Gysin, with whom he shared an interest in magic, altered states and conspiracy.

Strip the emperor of his clothes
Article Abstract:
American politicians fail to understand that President Saddam Hussein would hate to lose face before his own people. Attention should be on people: the UN should provide humanitarian aid in Iraq and monitor human rights in the country. Iraqis working outside their country and human rights organisations like Middle East Watch and Amnesty International provide information. Democrats from the Iraqi National Congress are assembling evidence to charge President Saddam's colleagues as criminals.

The emperor's old clothes
Article Abstract:
There is growing interest among collectors in Chinese court robes, and prices continue to rise. The market has been partly driven by the growth in purchasing power in China, but also by the fact that Feng Shui has become more widely known in the western world. Experts recommend that collectors avoid any garment with any signs of damage at all. A safe starting price would be between 5,000 pounds sterling and 6,000 pounds sterling, although an Imperial robe would cost more than this.
