Andre Giraud

Andre Giraud was a scientist who also became French Minister of Industry and later was Minister for Defense. He never competed in an election and served in different governments, retaining his political independence. He was seen as the main French expert on fuel, and was a teacher, technician and administrator as well as a politician. He sought to reassure the French about nuclear energy safety issues and helped promote solar power and persuade motorists to use less gasoline.

Jean Poperen
Article Abstract:
Politician Jean Poperen joined the Resistance in 1943 at the age of only 18. After the second world war, he became the leader of the Communist students, and after some years as a school teacher became a specialist in the French Revolution at the Sorbonne. He was elected deputy in the Rhone in 1973, and in 1977 became mayor of Meyzieu, France. He became a leading figure in the Socialist Party, and spent some time as Minister in Charge of Relations with Parliament.

Leopold Sedar Senghor
Article Abstract:
Politician, poet and writer Leopold Sedar Senghor was born in Joal, Senegal, in 1906. He studied at the Lycee Louis le Grand and the Sorbonne in Paris, France, and taught at French schools. He served with the French army during the second world war and gained a Chair at the University of Paris in 1944.
