A.H. Gerrard
Article Abstract:
Artist and teacher Alfred Gerrard studied at Northwich Technical School and served in the first world war. After the war, he studied at Manchester School of Art, and from 1920 studied at the Slade School of Fine Art under Professor Henry Tonks. He was Head of Sculpture at the Slade between 1925 and 1938. After service during the second world war, partly as a war artist, he became Professor of Sculpture at the Slade in 1949. He continued sculpting into his 80s, and was still drawing in later years.

Charles W. Stewart
Article Abstract:
Artist, collector and teacher Charles W. Stewart was born in Iloilo, Philippines, in 1915. He was a conscientious objector during the second world war, and during this time started drawing with a pen. His first book commission, for Rose Fyleman's 'Hob and Bob,' appeared in 1944.

Jehan Daly
Article Abstract:
Artist and teacher Jehan Daly was born in Llanelly, Wales, in 1918. He studied with his father, who was Principal of Kidderminster School of Art, and in 1937 joined the Royal College of Art. After serving in the Royal Engineers, he taught at Wimbledon and St Martin's.
