Floods waist-deep and rising in Yorkshire's tourist villages
Article Abstract:
Snow melting off the North York Moors and the Wolds has combined with heavy rain to cause the Derwent river, which passes through some of the most beautiful parts of the Pennines in North Yorkshire, England, to rise to extremely high levels. The river has burst its banks in some areas, cutting off villages and causing power cuts. Local people have reacted calmly, but some have been critical of the Environment Agency, stating that it did not issue warnings in time.

'A bad day for world dictators.'
Article Abstract:
The ruling by law lords in the UK that former Chilean dictator General Augusto Pinochet should not benefit from diplomatic immunity will have significant implications. It is possible that Pinochet will now have to stand trial in several countries for complicity in murder. Furthermore, there will be implications for others who have been involved in political crimes, with willingness to excuse the actions of dictators diminishing.
