Slowly, a future emerges from sea of mud
Article Abstract:
Relief workers in the areas of Honduras most badly affected by Hurricane Mitch fear that diseases such as cholera and malaria could soon become a serious problem. There have already been some cases of cholera, as well as Leptospira, transmitted by rats. Many people are also suffering from fungal disease on their feet as a result of wading through mud as they seek to salvage some of their possessions from their devastated homes. A coordinated international relief effort is now beginning to emerge in Honduras.

Tipper gets dirty to spread the word
Article Abstract:
Tipper Gore, wife of US Vice-President Al Gore, has travelled to Honduras to visit victims of Hurricane Mitch. She has talked to local people and visited a kindergarten, where she was filmed helping to clear mud. She also showed solidarity with Hondurans made homeless by the hurricane by spending a night in a tent, as many hurricane victims are. She brought with her a wide range of equipment, including water, blankets, tarpaulins and food.
