Army thinkers draw line between peace and war
Article Abstract:
British military experts believe that it is possible to make a distinction between a peace enforcement operation and a limited war. Their conclusions were presented at a recent conference on international peacekeeping. They have developed a model where traditional peacekeeping and 'wider peacekeeping' are distinguished from more aggressive military activities by the line of consent. In peacekeeping operations, those involved in the conflict agree to the peacekeepers being present. If this consent is withdrawn, then military intervention may shift towards being more like war.

Gulf troops given secret injections
Article Abstract:
The UK ministry of defence is believed to have authorised the administration of a number of injections to troops involved in the Gulf War which have still not been disclosed to MPs. It is feared by those campaigning for the recognition of Gulf War illness that some of the injections could have been experimental. Armed forces minister Nicholas Soames has already admitted that he was misinformed by the ministry of defence on the extent to which organophosphate pesticides were administered to Gulf War troops as a precaution against chemical weapons.

Elite troops learn to respect Chechen 'werewolves.'
Article Abstract:
Russian soldiers fighting in the breakaway republic of Chechnya are finding that the Chechens are extremely fierce fighters. Even experienced soldiers and members of Russia's elite special forces believe that the war will last for a long time. The Russian operation in Chechnya has turned into a fiasco, and Russian soldiers there believe that 7,000 people have been killed, much higher than official figures from Moscow.
