At last: the corporations come clean
Article Abstract:
It is proving extremely difficult to find a satisfactory way of encouraging countries to reduce their emissions of greenhouse gases. International energy taxation is politically unacceptable, and regulation is ineffective because it is always possible to find ways of circumventing it. The best approach may be to exploit the fact that large companies are becoming increasingly aware of the need to be seen as environmentally-friendly. A positive environmental record allows companies to attract the best employees and to boost the morale of existing employees.

Can divorce make us all rich?
Article Abstract:
Divorce generates additional economic activity for the UK, as the costs of paying lawyers are reflected in Gross Domestic Product. For high profile divorces, such as that of the Prince and Princess of Wales, further economic activity is also generated in the media and entertainment business. However, there are also considerable negative economic aspects to divorce. Many divorces are funded by legal aid, which comes from ordinary taxpayers, and this means that large sums of money are being taken away from one group and given to another.

Parliament's chickens come home to roost
Article Abstract:
The Nolan Committee was initially established to investigate allegations of 'sleaze' in public life, but its final impact may be much more widely felt. Indeed, it may prompt a wide-reaching review of the whole nature of politics. Politicians have set up regulatory bodies for many different industries, and it may now be their turn to be subject to scrutiny and regulation, thus improving the standard of their conduct.
