At last, we can slash the Third World's burden of crippling debts
Article Abstract:
It is vital to take action to lift the burden of debt on the world's poorest countries. As the world enters the 21st century, the most impoverished nations must be assisted in breaking the cycle of debt, poverty and inadequate development. The latest debt relief target involves ensuring that three-quarters of eligible countries pass through the debt relief process and the rest are making progress towards debt relief by the end of 2000.

A new European model for growth and employment
Article Abstract:
It is vital that concerted action is taken in Europe to deal with unemployment, which can have severe social and economic consequences. European leaders must develop a new economic model that offers employment opportunities for everybody. If this does not happen, then European monetary union will not be successful. It will only be possible to create jobs if Europe modernizes social security systems and welfare states.

No taxation without explanation
Article Abstract:
The Labour party's long-term plans for taxation are based on a new starting rate of income tax at 15p, or possibly even only 10p, in the pound. This would reduce the marginal rate of income tax for the poorest people in the UK and would encourage people to work harder. The party believes that the tax system must work to encourage effort, opportunity and work.
