Azem Hajdari
Article Abstract:
Student leader and politician Azen Hajdari studied philosophy at Tirana University, Albania. He became a natural leader of the students' movement as Communism began to collapse in eastern Europe. He was one of the founders of the DP, the first non-Communist party in Albania since the second world war, and became its first chairman, although he was quickly replaced by Sali Berisha. He eventually became a close associate of Berisha in opposition, but his reputation was damaged by his confrontational attitude.

Jeno Fock
Article Abstract:
Politician Jeno Fock was born in Budapest, Hungary, in 1916. He started work as a technician in his mid-teens. He became a Communist official and economic manager at the end of the second world war, and was Prime Minister between 1967 and 1975.

The Polish politician Edward Gierek died on Jul 29 2001 aged 88. The leader of the Polish Communist Party between 1970 and 1980, he was deposed from power when the group Solidarity emerged.
