Article Abstract:
Recent claims that Conservative MP Jerry Hayes had an affair with an under-age gay lover have caused particular embarrassment for prime minister John Major, who had just prior to this written a newspaper article launching a new campaign to promote family values. Some observers feel that this case does not merit the media attention it is currently receiving, especially as Hayes is only a very minor MP, and believe that it should not be used by the opposition to political advantage. The story has attracted so much attention partly because it reflects the final stages of decay in which the government now finds itself.

Hindu holy men on warpath at Ganges festival
Article Abstract:
There has been serious violence in Hardwar, India, on the occasion of Kunbh Mela, the most significant and popular festival in Hinduism. This festival, which takes place only once every 12 years, is held to mark the entry of Jupiter into Aquarius and of the Sun into Aries. Hindus believe that at this time the waters of the Ganges at Hardwar are temporarily transformed into nectar. The violence broke out between two sects, the Juna and the Niranjani, which have for many years disputed which should be first to enter the Ganges during the festival.
