Beware new housing traps for the poor
Article Abstract:
The tower blocks which were built in many parts of the UK in the 1960s are now widely accepted as having been an unsuccessful experiment in social housing. However, the approach taken over recent years, which has been to encourage the creation of housing associations which can buy up private estates, is now also being seen as flawed. Many housing estates which have been built over the last few years were not really designed for the poor, and are located in inaccessible places. There has also been a problem with establishing balanced communities.

How Swift's old-age horrors came true
Article Abstract:
People are now living much longer than in previous generations, and this is bringing problems which society has never experienced before. Younger people who are in employment will have to fund the care of an ever increasing population of elderly people, and the elderly will become extremely powerful, possibly with laws to prevent discrimination against them. Many elderly people are being kept alive with advanced medical techniques, and have in fact lost all quality of life.
