Bid for magical Thorpe Hall
Article Abstract:
The garden at Thorpe Hall, an 1820s house in the village of Thorpe-Le-Soken, England, was very overgrown when the house was purchased in 1913 by Lady Evelyn Byng and her husband Julian. She made slow progress with clearing the garden and redesigning it, but she did not become discouraged. She was determined to experiment with growing non-native trees, shrubs and plants from warmer countries, including Canadian lilies and Bottlebrush bushes from Australia. The rose gardens and terraces she created have now become overgrown, but the woodland walks and ornamental lakes continue to flourish.

Prime time to feast on the fiesta
Article Abstract:
Barcelona hosts the 25th modern Olympics in 1992 with 172 countries competing, more than any other Olympics since the end of the Cold War and apartheid in South Africa. At the next Olympics, in Atlanta, the 12 former Soviet republics will enter separate teams. To confine the numbers, qualifying standards might be raised, altering the character of the Games. Commercialisation also affects the Olympics. Testing for illegal use of drugs has resulted in fewer records being broken.
